March 2008 Course - London Venue

The course is held in the Department of Optometry and Visual Science at City University London.

Founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute on its present site and awarded full university status in 1966, the University has special links with the City of London and plays an active role in the business and professional life of the capital. The Chancellor is the Lord Mayor of London and the degree ceremonies are held at the historic Guildhall.

Its objects are: "to advance knowledge, wisdom and understanding by teaching, research and professional training, particularly in science and technology, both within the University and in close association with industry and commerce and by the example and influence of its corporate life to benefit society".

The Department of Optometry and Visual Science is one of the oldest of its type in the United Kingdom. The first full-time course in ophthalmic optics began at the antecedent institution to City University in 1927. Its faculty includes members of the ophthalmological, optometric and orthoptic professions as well as basic scientists and was rated '5' in last Research Assessment Exercise.

The course will be held at the Northampton Square Campus in Central London.
